The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released long-awaited proposed regulations outlining which types of health care services insurance companies must offer and which pre-existing conditions they can take into account when adjusting premiums. Days after it extended the deadline for states to decide if they will establish an insurance exchange, HHS issued proposed regulations outlining what the Obamacare law calls Essential Health Benefits – the package of health care services insurance companies must provide in order to be allowed to sell their product on the exchanges. The EHB regulation is important,

The left is madly spinning (aka, lying about) the impending demise of Hostess, trying to blame the free enterprise system, and even Mitt Romney´s former firm, Bain Capital. This is a lie. It was inside job of the left, with a prominent Democrat helping himself to consulting fees and a hundred thousand dollars a year sinecure for his son. Richard Trumka of the AFL-CIO is in the lead on the disinformation campaign, last week stating: "What´s happening with Hostess Brands is a microcosm of what´s wrong with America, as Bain-style Wall Street vultures

A Sudan Surprise

Sudan has played a key role in arming Hamas militants with sophisticated Iranian-made rockets, experts said. The Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) principal objective in Gaza is to rid Palestinian terrorists of sophisticated Iranian-produced rockets that are capable of striking deep into Israel’s heartland, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. These rockets originated in Sudan and were then smuggled into Gaza with Iran’s help, sources said. The existence of these advanced Fajr-5 rockets reveals the deepening ties between Iran and its terrorist proxies in Gaza and Sudan, where the rockets were housed before shipment.

Republicans: No Secret Meetings

Republicans understand their political leverage is significantly diminished following their electoral drubbing earlier this month, but some fear the secretive, high-level nature of tax and spending negotiations underway risks undermining the GOP position even further. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, last week issued a strong rebuke to the “closed-door meetings” and “secrecy” that have characterized recent efforts to produce a bipartisan agreement. “Secrecy cements the status quo: more spending, more debt, more runaway government. It is the enemy of accountability, change, and reform,” Sessions said in a statement.

The lesson of the 20th century is that Marxism was tried and tried and tried, and failed and failed and failed. But that lesson is lost on the true believer Barack Obama and his Democrat Party. Supposedly a forward looking progressive, Obama is dragging America back into cutting edge ideas from the late 19th century, already proven wrong to everyone except those in Obama’s freeze dried corner of American culture. What else can we make of the spectacle of our re-elected, conquering, Democrat hero president -- the cultural progeny of a 1960s radical American rejectionist mother

NEWARK — A behind-the-scenes political maneuver by Newark Mayor Cory Booker to fill a vacant council seat with his choice led to a near-riot in city hall tonight, with dozens of residents rushing the council stage and police responding with pepper-spray.After weeks of jockeying for Rep. Donald Payne’s successor, Booker made an unprecedented personal appearance to cast the deciding vote with his council allies for Shanique Davis Speight, a longtime ally of power broker Stephen Adubato, over the angry objections of residents. The White House on Wednesday condemned an attack on a bus in Tel Aviv that wounded at least 10 people. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those injured, and with the people of Israel," press secretary Jay Carney said. "These attacks against innocent Israeli civilians are outrageous." The bus was near military headquarters and the Israeli Defense Ministry when a bomb that had been placed inside the vehicle exploded, Reuters reports. The attack, deemed a terrorist act by Israel, touched off celebratory gunfire in Gaza that threatened to derail ceasefire talks.

U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice is set to go straight from misleading the country about a matter of national security to a promotion. A top candidate to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, Rice famously purveyed erroneous information about the Benghazi terror attack on five Sunday shows a few days after the deadly incident. But, hey, these things happen. The conventional wisdom says Republicans should get over it and concentrate their energies on more useful pursuits like caving to President Barack Obama on taxes. "Barack Obama won because he recognized a new America." Or maybe an America more fluid, more insubstantial than post-election wisdom is ready to grant. You can´t always tell about "new" -- a truth the human race rarely acknowledges. We´ll see whether James Carville´s and Stan Greenberg´s words from a Democracy Corps survey stand up better than the consensus of November 1965, following the Lyndon Johnson-led slaughter of almost every Republican downwind from Barry Goldwater. Johnson, father of the Great Society, was all but run out of Washington on a rail after mucking up the Vietnam War.

The president is bent on raising taxes big time, if not on January 1, when all sorts of rates are scheduled to go up, then shortly thereafter as the new, more Democratic Congress convenes to do its damage. The rationale? The deficit is getting out of control. Indeed it is. Since January 2009, when Obama took office, the United States has run cumulative budget deficits of $5 trillion. Before that time, debt held by the public was $6.3 trillion. Now it’s $11.4 trillion, an increase of 80%. What did we get for it? Growth of 1.5% per year.

Will 2013 be 1937? This is the question many analysts posed as the stock market dropped after the election. On Nov. 16, they noted that industrial production, a crucial figure, dropped as well. In this case, "1937" means a market drop similar to the one after the re-election of another Democratic President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in 1936. (Snip) Industrial production plummeted by 34.5 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by half,

Today’s bus bombing in central Tel Aviv--the first in more than six years--injured twenty-three people and will likely rule out any cease fire in the Gaza conflict in the coming days. The location of the blast is significant: it occurred a short distance away from the Kirya, the nerve center of Israel’s military. The attack was also timed to coincide with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visit to Israel, and sends a message of contempt to the U.S. The likely result is that Israel will continue with plans for a ground invasion of Gaza, just as it used a

For someone alleged to have grown up in Asia, Barack Obama is repeatedly clueless about customs there. It´s one thing if you´re a tourist. But as the president of the United States? More problematic. You may recall earlier trips there, part of his apology tours, when the Democrat president was bowing to just about everyone. In Japan, Emperor Akihito in a gesture of hospitality stuck out his hand for a Western greeting rather than expect a bow as he would from a subject. Maybe Obama skips his protocol briefings too.

After surviving a Supreme Court decision and a presidential election, the Obama administration’s health-care law faces another challenge: a public largely unaware of major changes that will roll out in the coming months. States are rushing to decide whether to build their own health exchanges and the administration is readying final regulations, but a growing body of research suggests that most low-income Americans who will become eligible for subsidized insurance have no idea what is coming.Part of the problem, experts say, is that people who will be affected do not realize the urgency, because the subsidies will not

Two weeks ago, Mitt Romney was anxiously waiting at his campaign´s headquarters in Boston to hear the results of the election. After his crippling loss, pictures surfaced of the former Massachusetts governor drowning his sorrows in a gallon of chocolate milk. He was recently pictured with his distinctive salt-and-pepper hair unceremoniously unkempt, and has been spotted going to the gym with his wife, Ann. And now, two weeks to the day since he lost the election to President Obama, Romney went to Disneyland, a place typically saved for when public figures experience victory.

That would be his Bacon Brownie, an individually wrapped square of fudgy goodness studded with three strips of chopped applewood-smoked bacon and sprinkled with sea salt. It sells for $2.49. “I call it a Ford truck. It’s made for the working man,” said Evers, 43, a former lobbyist, video producer and pig farmer.
