So much for being an average American citizen. The perks of having the last name “Obama” don’t stop at living luxuriously in the White House or flying around on Air Force One. In fact, the perks extend to something far more exclusive and unattainable for your everyday American: The Obamas get to watch the third season of “Downton Abbey” before the rest of the country does. Michelle Obama is so enamored with the series that she just couldn’t wait until it airs in the U.S. in January and “begged” british TV channel ITV

Do Americans suddenly like tax increases and bigger government? Or did they simply forget what happens when you raise taxes and make government larger? These are questions to ask as we analyze Tuesday´s election results to discern the fiscal consequences. Advocates of higher taxes prevailed in the presidential and legislative races, and resoundingly. (Snip) These votes suggest Americans are indeed looking at government and taxation differently.

The woman revealed to have been carrying on an affair with former CIA Director David Petraeus lost her driver´s license in a Washington, D.C., park recently, sources tell U.S. News. A Maryland National Capital Park Police spokesman confirmed that a jogger found a North Carolina license in Rock Creek Park belonging to Paula Broadwell. Park Police planned to hold it for 90 days, per policy, and then send it back to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The Park Police also alerted the FBI, says Bill Kellogg, a spokesman for the Park Police.

Free Enterprise: The left has had its fun with the hapless teenager who tweeted her desire to move to Australia after President Obama was re-elected. But the reality is, the private sector isn´t doing fine. Sure, it was a barrel of laughs to ridicule 18-year-old Kristen Neel, who expressed her displeasure with President Obama´s re-election on her Twitter account: "I´m moving to Australia because their president is Christian and actually supports what he says." Technically, Neel was wrong because Australia is now led by a left-leaning female, Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

The budget deficit rose in October, the first month of fiscal year 2013, as looming negotiations over expiring tax cuts and imminent spending reductions dominated the post-election political landscape. The Treasury said on Tuesday the October deficit was $120 billion, larger than economist forecasts for a $114 billion gap and up from $98 billion in October of 2011. Growth in expenditures outpaced rising receipts, deepening the deficit. Outlays grew to $304 billion from around $262 billion in the same month last year while receipts rose to $184 billion from $163 billion.

Covering Up Petraeus

Monday What pitiful pikers Haldeman and Ehrlichman, John Mitchell, Howard Hunt, Chuck Colson, and Richard M. Nixon were when it comes to cover-ups. They didn´t even start to know how to cover up a crime. For that you have to go to true experts like the Attorney General of the United States, Eric Holder, and the head of the FBI, Robert Mueller. These men, in possession of undisputed evidence that General Petraeus had lied to the FBI, did absolutely nothing about it except to cover it up.

In the last week, it is almost as if the entire American moral landscape has been turned upside down in eerie fashion — in matters that vastly transcend fornication and adultery. The Petraeus-gate matter is the stuff of tabloids now; but soon the real issues relating to when and what Eric Holder knew, and by extension the president, and how exactly Benghazi (the crime of indifference to the besieged, the cover-up of the truth, the actual mission of our consulate and annex) fits into this labyrinth of deceit, both petty and fundamental, may overshadow the present sensationalism. Nothing seems real anymore,

DENVER — It’s traditional for Americans to threaten to move to France or Canada when their candidate loses, but this year some disappointed voters are implementing a different plan. In the wake of the Nov. 6 election, petitions seeking to secede from the union have been filed on behalf of 23 states on the White House website, https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions. Most of the petitions contain the same wording and ask to withdraw “peacefully” from the United States in order to form independent governments.

The election was literally six days ago (well, OK, two days ago if you count Florida), and Florida Republicans are butthurt about the results. So the fine folks at Public Policy Polling thought it would be a neat idea to exploit that GOPer melancholy and the infinite sadness and ask them to look four years into the future and tell everyone who will be president. The PPP found that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush leads Marco Rubio 28 percent to 22 percent as to who will definitely, without a doubt, for sure is going to be the next president

If the U.S. government ends up careening off the "fiscal cliff," Republicans in Congress stand to shoulder most of the blame, according to a new poll released Tuesday. A majority of Americans said in a new, post-election poll that they do not expect President Barack Obama and members of Congress to reach an agreement to avoid the effects of the fiscal cliff, the combination of automatic spending cuts and tax hikes set to take effect at the beginning of the year.

BOISE, Idaho — A gang war that appears to have taken over parts of an Idaho private prison is spilling into the federal courts, with some inmates contending prison officials are ceding control to gang leaders in an effort to save money on staffing. (Snip) The inmates also contend that CCA officials use gang violence and the threat of gang violence as an "inexpensive device to gain control over the inmate population," according to the lawsuit, and that housing gang members together allows the company to use fewer guards, reducing payroll costs.

Another home-buying opportunity has surfaced in President Obama’s neighborhood, this time right next door. The owners of the famously vacant land next to Obama’s home in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood are trying to sell the 50’-by-150’ lot at 5050 S. Greenwood Ave.,for $899,000. The owners of the lot purchased it in 2008 for $675,00 with plans to construct a 8,000-square-foot home there but never moved forward with it. The architectural drawings for that potential home are available, too. Potential buyers will have to show their financial wherewithal as well as submit their name to the Secret Service

The one-time head of the U.S. Africa Command was demoted Tuesday and ordered to repay $82,000 for unauthorized spending on extravagant trips and other expenses. The move by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta means Gen. William “Kip” Ward will lose one star and retire as a three-star lieutenant general, according to The Associated Press. The demotion is just the latest bit of general misbehavior following the resignation of ex-Army Gen. David Petraeus for an adulterous affair, and reports that Marine Gen. John Allen is under investigation for his “flirtatious” exchanges with the whistleblower in the Petraeus case.

For over two years we have shared with readers the insights of a longtime Democratic Party insider who engaged in a prolonged war against the progressive extremes of the Obama White House. The 2012 election results would suggest that war was lost. Not so says this individual, a Republican Party operative who, though fearful of what the future may hold, remains determined to see their party emerge a stronger and more unified organization that better represents the interests of conservative America.

My evaluation of the state of US intelligence after the Petraeus scandal appears this morning at Asia Times Online. No one rises through the ranks of intelligence services by reporting pertinent facts that politicians don’t want to hear, Edward Luttwak observes. Bad policy produces bad intelligence. (Snip) If you believe that elected Islamists are democrats before they are Islamists, you will blunder as badly as Stalin or the US foreign policy establishment of 1980. Whatever details emerge about the Benghazi disaster last September, the incident reveals an intelligence failure embedded in a policy failure.

Last week, as the Petraeus sex scandal broke, The Mighty Charles Krauthammer said something that got a lot of play in New Media. He seemed certain that "sex" and the fact that Barack Obama was safely reelected would be the tipping point that drove the media to cover what´s become known as "BenghaziGate." Normally, if I disagree with Krauthammer I just assume I´m the one who´s wrong. But I knew that wouldn´t be the case here. And it hasn´t been. The media did exactly what I predicted it would. President Obama’s re-election and Democratic gains in the US Senate end any possibility of repealing the Obama health law. It will roll out as written, imposing major changes soon on you and your family. If you are uninsured because you can’t afford it, help may be on the way. But if you are one of the 250 million Americans with coverage, there are big problems ahead. If you get your health insurance through a job, you might lose it as of Jan. 1, 2014. That’s when the new “employer mandate” kicks in, requiring employers with 50 or more full-time workers to provide the government-designed health plan or pay a fine. The government plan is so expensive, it adds $1.79 per hour to the cost of a full-time employee. That’s incidental if you're hiring neurosurgeons but a hefty increase for hiring busboys and sales clerks.
