Monday What pitiful pikers Haldeman and Ehrlichman, John Mitchell, Howard Hunt, Chuck Colson, and Richard M. Nixon were when it comes to cover-ups. They didn´t even start to know how to cover up a crime. For that you have to go to true experts like the Attorney General of the United States, Eric Holder, and the head of the FBI, Robert Mueller. These men, in possession of undisputed evidence that General Petraeus had lied to the FBI, did absolutely nothing about it except to cover it up.
In the last week, it is almost as if the entire American moral landscape has been turned upside down in eerie fashion — in matters that vastly transcend fornication and adultery. The Petraeus-gate matter is the stuff of tabloids now; but soon the real issues relating to when and what Eric Holder knew, and by extension the president, and how exactly Benghazi (the crime of indifference to the besieged, the cover-up of the truth, the actual mission of our consulate and annex) fits into this labyrinth of deceit, both petty and fundamental, may overshadow the present sensationalism. Nothing seems real anymore,
DENVER — It’s traditional for Americans to threaten to move to France or Canada when their candidate loses, but this year some disappointed voters are implementing a different plan. In the wake of the Nov. 6 election, petitions seeking to secede from the union have been filed on behalf of 23 states on the White House website, https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions. Most of the petitions contain the same wording and ask to withdraw “peacefully” from the United States in order to form independent governments.
A White House petition gathering force calls for citizenship to be stripped and exile for anyone who signs a petition in favor of a state´s secession. "Mr. President, please sign an executive order such that each American citizen who signed a petition from any state to secede from the USA shall have their citizenship stripped and be peacefully deported," the full petition reads. The title of the petition is, "WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO: Strip the Citizenship from Everyone who Signed a Petition to Secede and Exile Them." As of this writing, 2,205 have signed the petition;
The election was literally six days ago (well, OK, two days ago if you count Florida), and Florida Republicans are butthurt about the results. So the fine folks at Public Policy Polling thought it would be a neat idea to exploit that GOPer melancholy and the infinite sadness and ask them to look four years into the future and tell everyone who will be president. The PPP found that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush leads Marco Rubio 28 percent to 22 percent as to who will definitely, without a doubt, for sure is going to be the next president
If the U.S. government ends up careening off the "fiscal cliff," Republicans in Congress stand to shoulder most of the blame, according to a new poll released Tuesday. A majority of Americans said in a new, post-election poll that they do not expect President Barack Obama and members of Congress to reach an agreement to avoid the effects of the fiscal cliff, the combination of automatic spending cuts and tax hikes set to take effect at the beginning of the year.
BOISE, Idaho — A gang war that appears to have taken over parts of an Idaho private prison is spilling into the federal courts, with some inmates contending prison officials are ceding control to gang leaders in an effort to save money on staffing. (Snip) The inmates also contend that CCA officials use gang violence and the threat of gang violence as an "inexpensive device to gain control over the inmate population," according to the lawsuit, and that housing gang members together allows the company to use fewer guards, reducing payroll costs.
Customs officials in Thailand seized 600 deadly cobras destined for Laos after stopping a vehicle at a checkpoint. Customs officials say the snakes came from Malaysia and were being shipped through Thailand for use in medicine or for food, SkyNews.com reports. Officials reportedly worked off a tip and set up an X-ray checkpoint in Pranburi, a city south of Bangkok. "The Bureau of Investigation and Suppression have been tracking this case for a year," Benja Louichareon, head of Thai customs, told SkyNews.com. "It´s a lot (of snakes)," she said. In May, officials seized 4,300 cobras, SkyNews.com reports.
Another home-buying opportunity has surfaced in President Obama’s neighborhood, this time right next door. The owners of the famously vacant land next to Obama’s home in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood are trying to sell the 50’-by-150’ lot at 5050 S. Greenwood Ave.,for $899,000. The owners of the lot purchased it in 2008 for $675,00 with plans to construct a 8,000-square-foot home there but never moved forward with it. The architectural drawings for that potential home are available, too. Potential buyers will have to show their financial wherewithal as well as submit their name to the Secret Service
The one-time head of the U.S. Africa Command was demoted Tuesday and ordered to repay $82,000 for unauthorized spending on extravagant trips and other expenses. The move by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta means Gen. William “Kip” Ward will lose one star and retire as a three-star lieutenant general, according to The Associated Press. The demotion is just the latest bit of general misbehavior following the resignation of ex-Army Gen. David Petraeus for an adulterous affair, and reports that Marine Gen. John Allen is under investigation for his “flirtatious” exchanges with the whistleblower in the Petraeus case.
For over two years we have shared with readers the insights of a longtime Democratic Party insider who engaged in a prolonged war against the progressive extremes of the Obama White House. The 2012 election results would suggest that war was lost. Not so says this individual, a Republican Party operative who, though fearful of what the future may hold, remains determined to see their party emerge a stronger and more unified organization that better represents the interests of conservative America. Headline split by staff.
My evaluation of the state of US intelligence after the Petraeus scandal appears this morning at Asia Times Online. No one rises through the ranks of intelligence services by reporting pertinent facts that politicians don’t want to hear, Edward Luttwak observes. Bad policy produces bad intelligence. (Snip) If you believe that elected Islamists are democrats before they are Islamists, you will blunder as badly as Stalin or the US foreign policy establishment of 1980. Whatever details emerge about the Benghazi disaster last September, the incident reveals an intelligence failure embedded in a policy failure.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Monday called on Republicans to “stop being the stupid party” and make a concerted effort to reach a broader swath of voters with an inclusive economic message that pre-empts efforts to caricature the GOP as the party of the rich...(snip) “It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal said. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party.
As 17-year-old Daniel Joseph walked through an open space park near his Centennial home before school last April, he felt a stinging pain in his leg. “I didn’t even hear a rattle until two or three feet until it passed,” said Joseph. A rattlesnake bit him twice. (Snip)His father, John, then received medical bills totaling about $43,000 for the six hours in the emergency department. “If you’ve got 30 to 40 percent of the people who pay nothing, the people who do have some ability to pay pay a lot more to cover the other guys.”
WASHINGTON- Both Gen. David Petraeus and Gen. John Allen intervened in the same nasty child custody battle involving Natalie Khawam, the “psychologically unstable” twin sister of Jill Kelley, whose bombshell claims of being threatened by Petraeus´ lover led to the top spy’s resignation last week, the Post has learned. Allen, the four-star general top commander in Afghanistan, was revealed last night to have exchanged thousands of pages of of emails with Kelley, who went to the feds after receiving threatening e-mails from Paula Broadwell, the married mistress of Petraeus. Both Petraeus and Allen apparently decided
CAIRO- A Salafist leader called on authorities to destroy the Pyramids and Sphinx in Giza, one of Egypt´s famous tourist sites, saying the "idols" must be removed. "All Muslims are charged with applying the teaching of Islam to remove such idols as we did in Afghanistan when we destroyed the Buddha statue," the Egypt Independent quoted Murgan Salem-al Gohary as saying in an interview on Egyptian Dream TV during the weekend. Gohary, described as a Jihadist leader who advocates violence and has links to the Taliban, was sentenced twice under former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and fled to Afghanistan
Last week, as the Petraeus sex scandal broke, The Mighty Charles Krauthammer said something that got a lot of play in New Media. He seemed certain that "sex" and the fact that Barack Obama was safely reelected would be the tipping point that drove the media to cover what´s become known as "BenghaziGate." Normally, if I disagree with Krauthammer I just assume I´m the one who´s wrong. But I knew that wouldn´t be the case here. And it hasn´t been. The media did exactly what I predicted it would. The sex scandal has been compartmentalized by the media
Politics aside, Joe Trippi is one of the most appealing guys on Fox News, and in this worthwhile profile he drops this interesting factoid: Trippi’s relationship with Fox began near the end of 2010, when he ran into Roger Ailes after doing a guest-spot on the network. “At the time, there was a big unofficial boycott of Democrats going on Fox, and I never understood it,” Trippi explains, “because my reading of the numbers is that more Democrats and independents watch Fox than CNN and MSNBC. ... No, no, wait. Pew just did a study that showed
Motor Trend magazine named Tesla Model S its 2013 Car of the Year, the first time a non-gasoline powered vehicle received the honor, but Americans are still warming to the idea of driving an electric car. The Model S beat finalists including luxury and family cars including the Ford C-Max Hybrid, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, BMW 3 Series, Lexus GS, Porche 911, Porche Boxster, and Subaru BRZ, according to the magazine. Edward Loh, editor-in-chief of Motor Trend, said the car was “truly a game changer” and the fastest American sedan tested.
President Obama’s re-election and Democratic gains in the US Senate end any possibility of repealing the Obama health law. It will roll out as written, imposing major changes soon on you and your family. If you are uninsured because you can’t afford it, help may be on the way. But if you are one of the 250 million Americans with coverage, there are big problems ahead. If you get your health insurance through a job, you might lose it as of Jan. 1, 2014. That’s when the new “employer mandate” kicks in, requiring employers with 50 or more full-time workers to provide the government-designed health plan or pay a fine. The government plan is so expensive, it adds $1.79 per hour to the cost of a full-time employee. That’s incidental if you're hiring neurosurgeons but a hefty increase for hiring busboys and sales clerks. Source name spelled out, content added by staff
On everyone´s mind this morning was the resignation of CIA Deputy Director David Petraeus on Friday. Liberal radio talk show host Bill Press did his best to catch his listeners up on the details of the scandal, but then went on a rant asking why it´s even an issue. At no point in his defense of the former Army general and CIA chief did Press bring up the impending hearing concerning Libya on Capitol Hill that Petraeus was scheduled to appear before, nor did he think an FBI investigation was necessary -- despite the confidentiality agreement
Something is rotten in Benghazi-Petraeus. But we cannot find the rot in these two tragedies because the information is classified and the administration remains silent at the pleasure of the press. Benghazi first: The CIA Libyan Chief of Station within 24 hours of the Tuesday September 11 attack on our consulate cabled CIA headquarters that it was carried out by militants and not in reaction to an obscure American-made internet video that criticized Islam’s Prophet Muhammed. Yet on Friday, September 14, Director of Central Intelligence, General David Petraeus, ignored his chief boot-on-the-ground and briefed the House Intelligence Committee,
Listening to President Obama speak on election night, I thought of the moment in "The Lion King" when Scar took over Pride Rock. My sentiment for America was perfectly captured by the accompanying song, “Be Prepared.” Be prepared, America, for another $5 trillion dollars in debt. That means America would be over $20 trillion in debt, one half of it added by one man, Barack Obama. Be prepared for higher taxes on those who are pulling the wagon, and more benefits for those who are sitting in the wagon.
Democrats don’t have the 51 votes they need in the Senate to change filibuster rules that could make it harder for the GOP minority to wield power in the upper chamber. Lawmakers leading the charge acknowledge they remain short, but express optimism they’ll hit their goal. “I haven’t counted 51 just yet, but we’re working,” said Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.), a leading proponent of the so-called constitutional or “nuclear” option, in which Senate rules could be changed by a majority vote. “We’re building the momentum right now,”
Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele is floating the idea of running for his old post again. In an interview on C-SPAN on Sunday, Steele was first asked if he thought current RNC Chairman Reince Priebus should run for another term. Priebus has suggested that he is leaning toward running for reelection. "That´s gonna be something the members have to decide," Steele said. Steele was then asked if he would consider running for RNC chairman again. "It´s not a bad idea." Steele said in response. "It would shake up
