If demographics is destiny, the Republican Party has a rendezvous with irrelevance — unless its policies change. This is the message some Republican leaders have been sending in the closing weeks of the presidential campaign. “The demographics race we’re losing badly,” Senator Lindsey Graham recently told the Washington Post with characteristic bluntness. “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.” The numbers tell the tale. Minorities have accounted for 85 percent of the country’s population growth over the past decade, according to the US Census Bureau. A record 24 million Hispanics

Rocker Bruce Springsteen once said he wouldn't perform during the 2012 presidential campaign. The Boss has changed his mind. President Obama's campaign said today that Springsteen will appear along with ex-President Bill Clinton a pro-Obama rally Thursday in Parma, Ohio. "Bruce Springsteen's values echo what the President and Vice President (Biden) stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity," said Jim Messina, Obama for America's campaign manager. "His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support."

London: Hillary Clinton, who has been at the center of committing fashion faux pas for the past year, may have finally traded in her signature hair accessory. Speaking with Italian Foreign Minister, Giulio Terzi Di Santagata, the 64-year-old US Secretary of State upgraded her favorite style with a black and metallic bejewelled hair tie. She has also recently been spotted in pearl-decorated hair ties; along with her increasing penchant for statement pearl necklaces, the Daily Mail reported. According to one of Clinton's top aides, it has been a general feeling that her scrunchies should be replaced

When terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11 of this year and killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, there were no U.S. Marines deployed in Libya to defend U.S. diplomats, diplomatic facilities and classified information and equipment. However, says the State Department, a Marine Security Detachment was deployed on that day to carry out those duties at the U.S. Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Joe Biden's unbounded id is the talk of the nation after Thursday's debate. But the Veep is also the elder Democratic statesman on international affairs, and in between his snickers, guffaws and "malarkey," he shed newsworthy light on Obama Administration foreign policy. Let's roll the tape. On Iran, Mr. Biden broke new ground, though most of the media missed it. To a question about the Administration's willingness to stop the Tehran regime from going nuclear,

The more we go through Vice President Biden’s remarks on foreign policy during his debate with Congressman Ryan, the more it looks to us like Prime Minister Netanyahu knows just what he is doing when he warns of the need for the Obama administration to set red-lines on Iran. This came into focus for us when we were watching one of the podcasts by the Wall Street Journal’s foreign affairs columnist, Bret Stephens, and then read the Journal’s devastating editorial this evening, “Biden’s Intelligence.”

The entire reason that this has become the political topic it is is because of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan." Prince Harry is operating like a ‘World War Two Spitfire pilot’ after being scrambled to save the lives of British soldiers in Afghanistan. The Royal has had ‘multiple engagements’ with the Taliban as he flies his fearsome Apache attack helicopter on emergency rescue missions on the battlefield. The 28-year-old, who is known as Captain Wales in the Army, provides covering fire to lightly-armed Chinook helicopters as they land to evacuate wounded troops.[Snip] A military source said: ‘Think World War Two Spitfire pilot and the Battle of Britain. Mine was not one of the “thankful parishes” that the Prime Minister made reference to when he launched his Great War Remembrance this week. I can see our war memorial from my sitting-room window, and there are 21 names on it for 1914-1919. (And only five from the 1939 war.) It is a really pleasing memorial. A block of granite, waist-high to me, with a tall Cross of Lorraine above. The names of the dead are in beautiful bronze letters. Arthur Mee apparently coined the phrase “thankful villages” for the handful of places across the country where there were

The studios and filmmakers behind Zero Dark Thirty and Lincoln are avoiding the appearance of trying to influence the U.S. presidential election by holding their movies' release dates until after Nov. 6.Another film, though, is making no bones about its attempt to sway voters. Atlas Shrugged: Part II, which opened Friday, not only wants to encourage moviegoers to vote against President Barack Obama, it’s boasting of its motives in its ad campaign. “Ayn Rand’s best-selling novel is now a major motion picture event. Will it influence the election?” a TV and radio commercial has been asking.

WASHINGTON — Lost amid the election-year wrangling over the militants’ attack on the United States Mission in Benghazi, Libya, is a complex back story involving growing regional resentment against heavily armed American private security contractors, increased demands on State Department resources and mounting frustration among diplomats over ever-tighter protections that they say make it more difficult to do their jobs. The Benghazi attacks, in which the United States ambassador and three other Americans were killed, comes at the end of a 10-year period in which the State Department — sending its employees into a lengthening list of war zones

WASHINGTON- Twelve years after leaving the White House, Bill Clinton is campaigning as if he's in the political race of his life. In some ways, he is. Clinton is endorsing President Barack Obama and Democrats in tight races for the House and Senate. But he's also burnishing a legacy as the party's elder statesman, rock star, global humanitarian and husband of Hillary Rodham Clinton, a once-and-perhaps-future presidential candidate herself. (Snip)"So you're stuck with me," Clinton told the crowd. Obama and other Democrats - maybe even Clinton himself - wouldn't have it any other way.

A compass pointing the way to Mecca is embedded in a new MasterCard aimed at Muslims. Gulf state-owned bank Al Hillal in the United Arab Emirates has rolled out the new bank card which complies with Islamic laws banning charging interest on loans in a bid to appeal to the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims. Islamic law or Shariah forbids ‘riba’, the charging of interest on loans, because it enables the rich to exploit the poor, creates social and economic tension and encourages risk, according to scholars.MasterCard spokesman James Issokson said, according to NBCNEWS.com: ‘We continue to see

Priorities: While our consulate in Benghazi was guarded by unarmed Libyan contractors making $4 an hour, our embassy in Vienna received an expensive charging station for its new electric cars to help fight climate change. Even MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell says Vice President Joe Biden lied during Thursday's debate when he said twice that no one in the Obama administration knew that requests for extra security had been made by our Libyan ambassador, Christopher Stevens, and other members of our consulate in Benghazi. The State Department knew "in real time," as Mitchell put it in her post-debate analysis

Talk about chickens coming home to roost. Talk about the Mother of All Fiascos. It's the revenge of Osama bin Laden from the bottom of the ocean, and the message is plain: al-Qaeda is very much alive, and America is a paper tiger. The Middle East is beginning to fall apart -- Iran just sent a spy drone over Israel's sensitive defense installations, and the IDF waited hours to react; Turkey forced down a Syrian arms plane, and al-Qaeda's Al Zawahiri openly assaulted the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in a six-hour attack, working through al-Qaeda

Telegraph columnist and Blur bassist Alex James fulfills a lifelong dream - and sheds a few tears - flying a Spitfire. Alex was given the chance to join the Boultbee Academy, a Goodwood-based flying school that compresses as much as possible of what actual trainee spitfire pilots learned, into a two-day course. Teaching begins, just as it did in the Thirties and Forties with a Tiger Moth, progressing to a more powerful Harvard before moving on to the Spitfire on day two. She's armed with cameras by specialist cameraman Andy Annable these days instead of machine guns.

The world’s first daily “wonderpill” to treat MS is even more powerful than previously thought. A trial has shown it not only cuts the risk of an MS attack, it can also slow brain shrinkage, which otherwise can occur in patients at three times the normal rate. The drug, Gilenya or fingolimod, is already available on the NHS and is revolutionising the lives of many of the UK’s 100,000 multiple sclerosis patients, who face symptoms such as blurred vision and problems walking and speaking. Data presented at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis congress

Brussels is threatening to take Britain to court unless the Government gives in to demands over benefits for migrants. There was fury last night that EU meddling could scupper bids to cut the UK’s huge welfare bill. One Government spokesman declared that Brussels “has no right to interfere in this way” and vowed to continue fighting. Eurocrats believe the UK applies an extra right to reside test which can deny benefits to people from Europe who have been here and paid taxes for a long time. Sources claim the EU is preparing to sue Britain by the end of

The presidential campaign has placed a spotlight on the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “The Book of Mormon” musical is pushing the religion to the forefront of pop culture. And with Ann Romney’s recent appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” semi-secret Mormon undergarments are no longer so secret. Not that Mrs. Romney’s underwear was showing. But the fact that it didn’t show under her sleek, knee-grazing skirt stirred up debate among some members of the faithful about whether she was or wasn’t wearing the “temple garments” required for most adult Mormons.

WASHINGTON -- Doesn't matter how bad things look for the St. Louis Cardinals. Trailing by a bunch, down to their last strike, they simply stay calm and do what it takes to win. Erasing an early six-run hole in Game 5 slowly but surely, the defending World Series champion Cardinals got a tying two-out, two-run single from Daniel Descalso and a go-ahead two-run single from Pete Kozma in the ninth inning and came all the way back to beat the Washington Nationals 9-7 Friday night and win their NL division series.

SIDNEY, Ohio — The crowds tell the story. As Election Day nears, Mitt Romney is drawing large and excited throngs. Look to dusty Iowa cornfields, rain-soaked Virginia parks, the muddy fields of the Shelby County Fairgrounds, where a crowd of 9,500 — almost half of this western Ohio town — gathered among the barns and stables on a frigid October evening this week to glimpse the Republican presidential contender. "Where else would we want to be?" said one of the shivering faithful, Judy Cartwright, a 71-year-old nurse from Sidney. "I want to see the next president of the United States."

Republicans escalated their charges against the Obama administration for alleged failures in handling last month’s Libya attack, thrusting the death of the U.S. ambassador there into the center of the presidential campaign Friday. Mitt Romney accused his rival of “doubling down on denial” about the true origins of the Sept. 11 siege in Benghazi, which senior Obama officials initially said appeared to be an outgrowth of anti-American protests, not terrorism. Whether the administration has truthfully disclosed what it knew about the perpetrators of the attacks became a flash point

Republican nominee Mitt Romney and his allies are banking heavily on a high-risk, high-reward media strategy in the final weeks of the campaign, hoping that burying President Obama in ads will give them a crucial edge on Election Day. Ad purchases in the presidential race doubled or in some cases tripled last week in swing states such as Colorado, Florida, Iowa and Virginia, tracking data show. The surge is being driven by Romney and well-funded allies, who decided against running more ads earlier in the campaign in favor of a big bang at the end.
