Editor's Extra:
Please take a minute and review the official Lucianne News Forum Rules. When you applied for registration at Lucianne.com you agreed to abide by them. The Editor's page includes updates and revisions to the original rules for posting at Lucianne.com.
About Lucianne.com: Lucianne.com is a NEWS site. Please post news articles, columns and commentary from legitimate on-line newspapers, magazines or news sites only. Editorial cartoons are not acceptable, nor are stand-alone photographs.
Sources: We do not accept postings from campus publications without prior written permission from the Editor or Lucianne. Articles posted from web-logs or 'blogs' are not permitted and will be closed and deleted without further explanation. If you want to post from a source and are unsure of this 'legitimacy' thing, just write to us in advance and include the URL to your article in your email before you post. We will let you know whether it is acceptable or not just as soon as we can. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to ask us first when in doubt. To contact Staff, please use the Contact link at the top or bottom of the LCom pages. Please do not go ahead and post, hoping for after-the-fact Staff approval.
Day-Old Posts: Stale? Please check the date of the article you plan to post. If it was published earlier than the last 24-hour news cycle, it will be closed and deleted. If an older article would serve as vital background or inform a current posted article, you may write and ask us to approve an exception to this rule in advance of your posting. If in doubt, just write in and ask us first. Otherwise, your post will be deleted without further explanation.
Special Posting Requests: In the case of special requests regarding original postings, there will be no exceptions granted during heavy traffic times. We will however review these when time permits. Please do not post hoping for after-the-fact Staff approval.
Search To Be Sure: We have a SEARCH function link at the top and the bottom of most of our pages. When posting, particularly later in the day (our late night posters grab news with the speed of striking snakes), please type the byline (the LAST name of the author) of the article you want to post into the Search space. If there is no author, please Search by source, headline and/or keyword. Searching by headline alone is unreliable because headlines change. That way you will avoid duplicating the efforts of others, which causes Staff to take time and effort to delete your work, and keep us from getting cranky.
The Law and You: Please obey U.S. Copyright laws. Original posts should be NO MORE than 75 words in length (average is SEVEN lines or less). Not only will this satisfy the COPYRIGHT laws, it will allow your fellow posters to be able to load and view the front page in full. Tip: Posting the first paragraph of the article is the best way to make sure you are not going to be edited or your post closed and deleted. The first sentence of the article must be posted in full. Posts containing only one sentence of text are not permitted and will be closed and then deleted. In Replies, short quotes from copyrighted articles and web sites may be used, but please do not post entire copyrighted articles into Replies. It is better to state your opinion in your own words. Any copyrighted material posted in Replies MUST include a link to the original source online.
Screaming For Attention: Please do not post headlines in all-capital letters no matter how they appear in the original article. (Acronyms are the only exception: NASA, NYPD, WMD, etc.) Articles posted with headlines in all-caps will be deleted. You may repost correctly. You may ask "why?" Because it becomes an editorial comment and sets a capitalized post off as more important than others do. Part of our little tip o' the hat to democracy.
Comments on Comments: The Comments section in your original post is for your comments, not the posting of additional copyrighted text. This is also the place for **barf alerts** and the like. If you alter the headline with comments, or alter copyrighted text in the intro, you run the risk of having your thread closed immediately and deleted as well. Your LComStaff does not always have the time and patience to edit out your comments in the headlines or intros, nor to explain why they did.
Posting from FrontPageMagazine.com: Our site policy limits these postings to THREE per day. That quota is usually reached shortly after midnight. Use our SEARCH feature and type in the word 'Front' if you are unsure whether the limit has been met for the day - otherwise your post will be deleted by Staff.
Posting From Drudge: A word on posting hot stuff that pops-up on the Drudge Report before it has a link to a news site. DON'T. That's the word. We love Drudge. Drudge is hot. Drudge is fabulous, a friend and a fox but think 'link' to post on our site. One always pops up sooner or later so be patient.
Posting Photographs: Posting of stand-alone photographs as main posts is not permitted. If you wish to post a photo or a gif on a Reply thread, please post a link to the photo or gif, not the picture itself - unless, of course, it is one of your own. This has to do with other sites complaining about use of their pictures and our bookkeeper complaining about the size of our bandwidth bills. Thanks.
Post Edited, Closed or Deleted? We recommend that you quickly review the rules and guidelines outlined on this page before you post or if you are wondering why your post may have been closed or deleted from the board. During peak site-traffic times, we will be unable to post a note on each thread explaining why your post was closed, edited or removed. In order to balance the server load, many posts will be deleted immediately when they have been improperly posted or in the case of an immediate duplicate or in the rare instance two posts overlap with the same thread number simultaneously. We feel that you should be aware of these things in advance - LComStaff may not have the time to answer your emails immediately.
About Replies:
Shorter Is Sweeter: Replies are limited to 200 words.
Post Doesn’t Appear? If you have tried to post a comment and your post comes up blank, with just your user name and the time but none of your words, you have probably been caught by our AUTOMATIC BAD WORD TRAP. Certain four-letter words and other words that your mother would wash your mouth out with soap for saying at her dinner table are forbidden on Lucianne.com. Our software will stop you from posting Java scripts, VB scripts, and the like. The software will also stop you from posting links to hate sites and pornographic sites. **NOTE** The use of quotation marks in any HTML formatted reply may also cause you post to 'disappear'.
On Staying On Topic: Lucianne.com does not allow the discussion of what is happening on other message boards. We are not interested. Further discussions of that type will result in the loss of posting privileges. We are extremely tolerant of people's personal opinions and we are happy to offer people a place to express their opinions. However, we want people to stay ON TOPIC and not get into personal debates. To facilitate this, we ask you not to get into conversations with other posters. It should go without saying that attacking other posters will not be tolerated.
Questions or Comments about Site Policy or Content? Registered posters should send any questions and comments on site policy and content to Staff via the Contact link available at the top and bottom of each page. Please do not post these on Reply threads, where they will be deleted.
Language Alert!!! Once again, we have to jump on posters about language and offensive verbal images. There are many stories in the news about things we used to not talk about in public. We cannot help that but this site was not built to add to the coarseness of the times. Sexual, scatological posts, posts that advocate death and dismemberment and posts that use offensive language will be deleted. Use of the term 'STFU' or a similar phrase will not be tolerated - no exceptions. The next time a poster gets lazy about their vocabulary, they will be banned. If you cannot express yourself any other way go to dictionary.com and do a little work. There are chat rooms on the web where you can talk as dirty as you like. We are not one of them.
No If's, and’s or *$() #@ () #!’s: We remind you that using symbols to get around the 'dirty-word-filter' is not acceptable. We see a growing number of these being used and we will be revoking the posting privileges of those who continue to 'swear by them'.
Salon vs. Saloon: This is our site philosophy. These rules are not difficult to adhere to and help keep Lucianne.com an exciting place to visit. The reality of this site is that you who register, post and COMMENT here are THIS SITE'S reporters and editors. It is your site and it is up to you to keep it a civilized place to visit and learn what is happening up-to-the minute in our world.
EDITOR'S ALERTS:
Don't Be MIA - It's Update Time: We need you to update your email listing with us. If you have changed it since you registered, we really need you to let us know. This is most important as an incorrect or out-of-date email could cancel your registration and no one wants that! We do not accept registrations from anonymous email addresses, such as Yahoo or Hotmail or similar such online email services. There are dozens of them and none of them are acceptable. Here are some tips for reducing unsolicited E-Mail.
Your User Profile: Check your profile: Many have written in and told us that your email address is showing...It is your responsibility to check the appropriate boxes in your profile. LComStaff does not control this function.
Stay Safe!!! Looking for updates and security news for just about any product? The Security Software Updates hosted by the Security Forum at DSLReports is always current!
