That means that people registering to vote won´t be bullied into proving citizenship, which now seems to be an irrelevant criterion for voting. “I am very pleased, obviously,” said Dolores Furtado, president of the Kansas chapter of the League of Women Voters. “It’s a good feeling because we’re truly trying to help” people get registered to vote. Furtado said the league’s main interest is in increasing participation in the

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell concedes that there’s little congressional Republicans can do to fight the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of same-sex marriage nationwide, though he predicted a flurry of litigation aimed at protecting “religious liberty” in light of the decision. The Kentucky Republican has been a staunch opponent of same-sex marriage: He was one of just six Senate Republicans to sign an amicus brief urging the high court to reject federal protection of same-sex marriage. And though he reiterated to Kentucky TV station WDRB on Tuesday evening that his position has not changed, he also said there is little

United Nations (United States) (AFP) - Robert Redford told the United Nations on Monday that negotiations on a global deal to tackle climate change could be the world´s "last chance" to save the planet. "This December, the world must unite behind a common goal," said the American actor and producer. "Because look, this is it. This is our only planet, our only life source. "This may be our last chance." World governments will try to forge a new global accord to address climate change at a UN climate conference in Paris in December, with both developed and developing countries committing to cutting greenhouse gas

Media outlets across the U.S. are sparing no energy in attacking billionaire and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his recent comments highlighting criminals who illegally enter the U.S. from Mexico. Every possible chance to attack is being taken, with some outlets going as far as making news stories out of children saying bad things about Trump on social media. The frenzy developed shortly after Trump used his national platform to make comments on the criminal element that illegally crosses the porous U.S.-Mexico border to commit heinous crimes on U.S. soil. USA Today went as far as reporting on a YouTube video made

Last week, millions of Facebook users gave their profile pictures a rainbow makeover to celebrate the double Pride/Supreme Court same-sex marriage ruling but an unpleasant backlash has begun. The translucent rainbow tool was laid on by Facebook itself, but a number of third-party apps are now offering an American flag equivalent to people opposed to gay marriage and equality in general. RightWingNews.com, which created one of the American flag tools, hasn’t explicitly stated that it’s meant as a counter to the rainbow Celebrate Pride avatars and oppose equal marriage, many users seem to have been taking it that way:

Macy´s is the latest to cut ties with Trump following his controversial comments about Mexico and Mexicans during his announcement that he was running for president. The company issued a statement: "Macy´s is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion. We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form. We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture. We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans,
