For a few glorious weeks this summer, Fox News seemed as if it had emerged from a retrograde stupor defined, in part, by “leg cams,” the cinematic technique predicated on shooting broadcasters at thigh level, in favor of a period of enlightenment. After former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual-harassment lawsuit against the network’s co-founder, Roger Ailes, numerous other women came forward with surprising velocity to voice their own allegations. Meanwhile, James Murdoch, the C.E.O. of 21st Century Fox, and his brother, Lachlan Murdoch, its executive chairman, swiftly ordered an aggressive internal investigation to be administered by the
Fox News´ Shepard Smith strayed from the Fox News script today while interviewing Wall Street Journal reporter James Grimaldi following Hillary Clinton´s Reno, Nevada speech. Actually that´s putting it mildly. Smith crashed through the barrier of at least putting up the appearance of neutrality and broke into the realm of flat out bias of the worst sort by charging Donald Trump with racism. If you think I am exaggerating, watch the following video of the exchange for yourself and you be the judge.
A software company that sells a brute-force data erasure program is boasting that its technology gave Hillary Clinton the power to ´wipe´ her private homebrew email server before it fell into the hands of the FBI. Application developer Andrew Ziem wrote in a Thursday night press release that his BleachBit software prevented the FBI from accessing emails that Clinton deleted. ´Last year when Clinton was asked about wiping her email server, she joked, "Like with a cloth or something?" It turns out now that BleachBit was that cloth.´ When Windows, Mac OS, Linux or other operating systems ´delete´ files, their entries in a
Target is launching a first-of-its-kind one-day sale to try and boost back-to-school shopper traffic amid a boycott over its bathroom policy. The retailer is offering a 10% discount on everything in its stores and online on Sunday. Target is calling the event #TargetRunDay. It marks the first time Target has ever offered a 10% discount both in stores and on its website. The sale comes after Target last week reported its first quarterly traffic decline in more than two years. Target´s same-store transactions, which is how traffic is measured, fell 2.2% in the second quarter. Overall, sales fell 7.2% to $16.2 billion. "In the second
Hillary Rodham Clinton has a weakness for questionable, ethnically vague proverbs — “It takes a village,” from an “African” proverb, and all that piffle—and she broke out a shopworn specimen in denouncing Donald Trump, on this occasion an “old Mexican proverb” that seems to exist largely in Democratic attack rhetoric: “Tell me with whom you walk, and I’ll tell you who you are,” the idea being that Trump likes to play footsy with peckerwood-trash racists and the white-power basement-dwellers whose homepage is Breitbart. Mrs. Clinton is correct about that, for what it’s worth (I warned you knuckleheads about this back
Hillary Clinton’s campaign on Thursday released a video linking Donald Trump to the Ku Klux Klan ahead of a speech in which the Democratic presidential nominee will attempt to tie her GOP rival to the “alt-right” movement. The video strings together clips of KKK leaders and white supremacists voicing their support of Trump. The minute-long spot also targets Trump’s newly minted campaign CEO, Steve Bannon, a former Breitbart News executive who is associated with the alt-right. It also features CNN anchor Jake Tapper asking Trump earlier this year if he denounced former KKK leader David Duke’s support of his candidacy.
I recently sliced the tip of my toe on an ocean barnacle. This happened at 6pm on a Friday of a long-awaited beach weekend, so I avoided the emergency room for stitches. Overdosing on rosé was no cure. My minor wound kept bleeding. I finally went to the doctor when I got home where I got crutches, antibiotics for the infection, and an avoidable weeklong recovery for a tiny cut, for no reason other than my bullheadedness. As I watch Hillary Clinton wish away the fallout of the Clinton Foundation’s unseemly ties with the State Department during her tenure as Secretary of
