The Vatican has denied claims that Pope Francis performed an exorcism, after TV images showed a man apparently reacting to him putting his hands on his head. The encounter - during Sunday Mass - was shown on a TV channel owned by the Italian bishops´ conference. The station quoted exorcists as saying there was "no doubt" the Pope had either performed an exorcism or a prayer to free the man from the devil. Its director later apologised for "having altered the truth". The Pope´s spokesman said he "did not intend to perform any exorcism".

Officials in the White House discussed how and when the Internal Revenue Service would tell the public that the agency had targeted political groups, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Tuesday. Carney said that Mark Childress, the White House deputy chief of staff, twice spoke with officials at the Treasury Department about the strategy for revealing conservative targeting. Childress and the Treasury officials discussed the possibility that Lois Lerner, the IRS official who oversaw the agency´s tax-exempt organization, would reveal that an inspector general´s investigation had found

The U.S. has identified five men who might be responsible for the attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, last year, and has enough evidence to justify seizing them by military force as suspected terrorists, officials say. But there isn´t enough proof to try them in a U.S. civilian court as the Obama administration prefers. The men remain at large while the FBI gathers evidence. But the investigation has been slowed by the reduced U.S. intelligence presence in the region since the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks, and by the limited ability to assist by Libya´s post-revolutionary law

Conservative activists let it all hang out in a noontime tea party protest outside the Internal Revenue Service headquarters building in Washington, DC on Tuesday. About 70 protesters held signs, chanted slogans, and listened to speakers rail against what they called ´their ´unconstitutional´ treatment at the hands of the federal government´s tax authorities. ´Big government is the problem,´ Tea Party WDC founder Lisa Miller told MailOnline. ´They´re going to have to produce all the documents showing who ordered this persecution of tea party groups, when it happened, and how much President Obama knew about it.´

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Jay Carney tried to avoid questions about the series of scandals surrounding the Obama administration by comparing them to questions about the president’s birth certificate. At today’s White House press briefing, CBS’s Major Garrett asked Carney if the White House thought Republican inquiries about recent scandals were “legitimate.” (Reporters mentioned the Benghazi attack, the IRS scandal, the Department of Justice’s investigations of reporters, and the Department Health and Human Service’s efforts to raise funds from private companies to promote Obamacare.)

Devastated families are frantically searching for their young children after an elementary school was flattened by a monster two-mile wide tornado in Moore, Oklahoma on Monday, leaving dozens dead. Initial reports said as many as 91 people could have been killed in the tragedy, but officials confirmed on Tuesday morning there have been 24 deaths, including nine children and four in Oklahoma City. They explained that some had originally been counted twice amid the chaos. Officials, who warned that the death toll could rise, said 237 people were injured in the storm and that searches are continuing

After almost nine months, during which we have seen a bogus State Department press release, Rose Garden denouncements, a Treaty Room statement, Andrews Air Force base condolences, 25,000 documents, an Accountability Review Board report, a Senate report, depositions, press briefings, Congressional hearings, and Obama administration officials trolling on Sunday talk shows, it’s time to play Benghazi CLUE! America needs to know if Colonel Mustard, Mrs. Peacock, Professor Plum, or any of the other suspects used a dagger, a knife, a rope, or a candlestick in the library, the conservatory, or the billiard room.

Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia can finally agree on something. "He called me a whiner. He´s probably right," Garcia told Golf.com on Monday at the start of the week of the BMW PGA Championship in England. "But that´s also probably the first thing he´s told you guys that´s true in 15 years. I know what he´s like. You guys are finding out." On the same day that Tiger Woods uttered one word -- "No" -- to quickly dismiss the possibility of making amends over the pair´s verbal sparring during the Players Championship, the Spaniard kept swinging at

The Washington Post reported today that, in the course of a leak investigation of a State Department employee who allegedly provided Fox News’s James Rosen with classified information, the Obama Justice Department not only subpoenaed Rosen’s private e-mails but also said that Rosen was “an aider and abettor and/or co-conspirator” in the alleged crime. Rosen was not charged with any crime, but it is unprecedented for the government, in an official court document, to accuse a reporter of breaking the law for conducting the routine business of reporting on government secrets.

An Internal Revenue Service review of the agency’s approach of scrutinizing conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status questioned the now-controversial policy a year ago, according to a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee aide who asked not to be identified. IRS officials briefed House and Senate committee staffers on the matter on May 13, the day before the Treasury Department’s Inspector General for Tax Administration released his report describing the decision to single out groups with phrases such as “tea party” and “patriot” in their name as “inappropriate.”

A federal court in San Francisco Tuesday struck down Arizona´s ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the law violates a string of U.S. Supreme Court rulings starting with Roe v. Wade that guarantees a woman´s right to an abortion before a fetus is able to survive outside the womb. That´s generally considered to be about 24 weeks. Normal pregnancies run about 40 weeks. Several states have enacted similar bans starting at 20 weeks. But the 9th Circuit´s ruling is binding only in the nine Western states

CBS News has a piece quietly mocking a Benghazi whistleblower for writing poetry in a classic example of how the MSM marginalizes opponents of Barack Obama: Raymond Maxwell, who was one of Hillary Clinton’s State Department officials who was disciplined for security lapses vis-à-vis Benghazi, has been writing poetry since he was put on leave. Significantly, some of the poetry deals with Maxwell’s frustration at being made a scapegoat: The web of lies they weave / gets tighter and tighter / in its deceit / until it bottoms out - / at a very low frequency - / and implodes...

President Obama and his allies in the House and Senate may have failed in their attempt to channel shock and anger over Newtown into passing strict new gun control legislation, but it wasn´t for lack of trying. The quick pivot from tragedy to legislation is just another indication that one party has a knack for legislating while the other spends most of its time saying no, or offering watered down versions of its opponents´ legislation. That seeming inability to quickly connect moments of national outrage with meaningful legislation on the part of Republicans will be on display

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew was told about a government watchdog´s investigation of the Internal Revenue Service in mid-March but did not learn the full extent of its findings until they were released earlier this month. Lew told the Senate Banking Committee on Tuesday that he first learned about the possible problems during a "getting to know you" meeting with the Treasury´s inspector general for tax administration, J. Russell George, on March 15. At that meeting, George ran down a number of items for Lew, including the potential for "troubling findings" in regards to the agency´s handling of tax-exempt applications

On the heels of news that the Obama administration Department of Justice was spying on reporters at the Associated Press, Monday brought the startling disclosure by the Washington Post that the DOJ had also targeted Fox reporter James Rosen for surveillance in an effort to plug up leaks. Additionally, the New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza obtained the full application for a search warrant of Rosen’s personal email account, in which the DOJ accused him of being “an aider and abettor and/or co-conspirator.” As Lizza put it, “Rosen was not charged with any crime, but it is unprecedented for the government,

WASHINGTON— The man who led the Internal Revenue Service when it was giving extra scrutiny to tea party and other conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status told Congress on Tuesday that he knew little about what was happening while he was still commissioner. Douglas Shulman, who vacated his position last November when his five-year term expired, told the Senate Finance Committee he didn´t learn all the facts until he read last week´s report by a Treasury inspector general confirming the targeting strategy. The Democratic Party´s edge over the GOP on who the public trusts more on ethics and corruption issues has flipped in the wake of the IRS and Benghazi scandals, according to Rasmussen Reports. Not only do voters trust Republicans more now, they have their highest level of confidence in the GOP and the lowest level in Democrats in seven months. While the Democrats had an eight-point "trust advantage" over Republicans a month ago, Rasmussen´s latest poll said that edge has disappeared and now the GOP has a two-point advantage. The left loves to remind everyone that the former IRS commissioner was a Bush appointee, because somehow this makes it OK that his IRS office abused power to criminally target conservatives. For a party that loves to blame Bush, they sure love signing off on everything Bush did and then maximizing it times eleventy. Shulman may have been a Bush appointee, but he was an Obama donor: Shulman donated $500 to the Democratic National Committee in 2004. So let’s start calling him “Democrat supporter” Doug Shulman. All this shows is that Bush wasn’t an ideological bigot.

Tuesday´s elections will sweep in new leadership for Los Angeles´ 3.8 million residents, but the races are likely to be decided by an older, whiter and more educated fraction of the city´s population. Latinos, the city´s dominant ethnic group and a key voting bloc, make up 44% of the city´s population, U.S. Census figures show. But a USC Price/Los Angeles Times poll of likely voters last week suggests Latinos will make up 24% of those who cast ballots Tuesday, in part because many are immigrants who are ineligible to vote.

The IRS requested, in an audit, the names of the conservative Leadership Institute’s 2008 interns, as well as specific information about their internship work and where the interns were employed in 2012, according to a document request the IRS sent to the Leadership Institute, dated February 14, 2012. Danger. Danger. Al Qaeda’s Syrian wing also known as “rebels” bent on overthrowing Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad (mirroring the Saudi, the Obama administration and Republican Senator John McCain’s position), have taken over the oilfields that once belonged to Assad. If that wasn’t bad enough it gets worse. We are a hair trigger away from World War III. Reportedly Assad is preparing missile strikes against Tel Aviv if Syria is attacked again. Meanwhile, back in Obama’s America, don’t call Libya’s weapon recovery program “buyback” that then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton funded using $40 million of your tax dollars

"I frankly think the committee should apologize to Apple," Paul said during a hearing of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Paul said he was offended by the "tone and tenor of the hearing." "I´m offended by the spectacle of dragging in executives from an American company that is not doing anything illegal," Paul said.
