Former 2012 presidential candidate Jon Huntsman is forming a new PAC dedicated to helping elect like-minded Republican candidates across the country. Huntsman says he’s undecided on his future plans and the 2016 race, but the new Red Rock PAC will give him a perch from which to speak and travel — as well as give him access to a network of candidates, donors and potential future surrogates for any presidential candidacy. “It’s way early,” Huntsman told POLITICO about the 2016 race. “For this year and next year, it will be more about talking about

ALBANY, N.Y. -- With all the corruption in Albany, one of your representatives is instead focusing efforts on something many of you like to do, bowl. New York State Senator Patrick Gallivan (R-59th District) New York State Assemblyman Robin Schimminger (D-140th District) are sponsoring a bill that would cover bowling shoes. The bill in the assembly is co-sponsored by Assembly members Brian Kolb, Crystal Peoples-Stokes and Jane Corwin. It would require alley owners to post signs, warning keglers not to wear bowling shoes outside, lest they become wet

Poll: Brutal numbers for Obamacare

Last month, a Kaiser Foundation poll pegged Obamacare’s public support at a tepid 35 percent. A new survey from Fox News confirms that finding. Asked if they’d rather to keep the new law in place or erase it from the history books and revert back to the 2009 system, Americans say they’d strongly prefer turning back the clock: 22. Do you think it would be better to leave the new health care law in place, or would it be better to go back to the health care system that was in place in 2009? Better to keep law:

At least nine cars were torched and two schools and a police station were set ablaze as riots swept through Stockholm´s immigrant-dominated suburbs early Friday for the fifth straight night, police and firefighters said. The riots, which have shattered Sweden´s image abroad as a peaceful and egalitarian nation, have sparked a debate about the assimilation of immigrants, who make up about 15 percent of the population. Many of the immigrants who have arrived due to the country´s generous refugee policy struggle to learn the language and find employment, despite numerous government programmes.

The Washington Post carried a huge, almost life-size picture of Jay Carney’s head in the Style section on Friday. But it was designed as a pick-me-up for the embattled Obama spinner. It was a story about...Carney and his favorite rock band. “Benghazi and the IRS have kept Carney scrambling, and he hasn’t had much time to listen to ‘English Little League,’ the latest album from the Ohio indie-rock band [Guided by Voices] he has affectionately name-dropped in more than one news briefing.” Critics want Carney canned, but the Post wants him to feel happy about the “beer-soaked brilliance”

WASHINGTON — Democratic Rep. They are issues that have occurred that have to be addressed. I don’t think they rise to the level of a scandal,” he said. “We had a bunch of idiots at IRS

Eric Holder versus journalism

Attorney General Eric Holder personally signed off on the warrant naming Fox News journalist James Rosen a “possible co-conspirator” in violation of the Espionage Act, Michael Isikoff reported yesterday. Which is sort of awkward, because Barack Obama also yesterday told the country (the whole country) that he didn’t want to criminalize reporting, and that he was going to ask his Justice Department to make sure not to do that anymore. Rosen wasn’t charged. In truth, the government never really intended on charging him. (Snip)That’s the scandal: That the government could charge a journalist with, effectively, spying, simply for reporting.

The plane, flight number PK709, took off from Lahore with 297 people aboard and had been due to land at Manchester airport at 2pm. However, the Guardian understands that the pilot, concerned about a disruptive passenger who had started shouting, asked to divert to Stansted, London´s third airport, as a precaution. The pilot was then satisfied the incident had been resolved. However, the passenger is likely to be escorted off the plane at Stansted.

Giving a speech on counter-terrorism policy at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., today, President Barack Obama explained that when deciding whether to target terrorists with drones—whether or not the terrorists are U.S. citizens—he has set a “high threshold” of respect for human life. “But the high threshold that we have set for taking lethal action applies to all potential terrorist targets, regardless of whether or not they are American citizens,” Obama said. “This threshold respects the inherent dignity of every human life.”

Of all the scandals in his administration that President Obama knows nothing about, the one Americans find most appalling is the decision by the Internal Revenue Service to target the president’s political adversaries. What’s more, as subsequent congressional testimony has made clear, the IRS isn’t particularly repentant about its actions. One thing Republicans and Democrats should therefore be able to agree on is that this is no time to significantly expand the IRS’s power. Yet that is exactly what will happen under Obamacare if no action is taken. A simple proposal: Remove the IRS from any role

However, the scale, horror and repercussions of 9/11--2,996 people dead, the World Trade Center destroyed and the Pentagon attacked--set it apart as a seminal moment that changed the course of history. Nice try by President Obama to change the national subject of intense public discussion from his serial scandals to his "fight" against terrorism. In an hour-long speech, interrupted by a persistent heckler, the former Real Good Talker reminded his audience, whose mission is to study war, that the United States has "constitutional principles." And that "having fought for our independence, we know a price must be paid for freedom." Strange words indeed coming from an alleged constitutional law lecturer and president whose Internal Revenue Service has been illegally targeting and intimidating Americans of a certain contrary political persuasion.

At one bar, a mixture that included rubbing alcohol and caramel coloring was sold as scotch. In another, premium liquor bottles were refilled with water--and apparently not even clean water at that. State officials provided those new details Thursday on raids they conducted a day earlier as part of a yearlong investigation dubbed Operation Swill. Twenty-nine New Jersey bars and restaurants, including 13 TGI Fridays, were accused of substituting cheap booze - or worse--for top-shelf brands while charging premium prices. State officials would not say what establishment used the rubbing alcohol or which one used dirty water, or
