“He was not radical at all,” Taramov told WESH-TV. He added that the FBI had been tracking Todashev since the Boston bombings. At some point, Todashev moved to Florida. He was arrested for aggravated battery this month, according to police records, after getting into a fight with a man in a parking lot. When the FBI agent and others arrived at his apartment early Wednesday, the law enforcement officials said Todashev initially was cooperative. They said he appeared on the verge of signing a confession to the killings of three people in Waltham in September 2011.

Regarding this IRS hearing and so forth, I think what we should do is just demand that these people apologize to Mitt Romney -- they influenced an election, that´s what they did -- and then move on. Uh, I think the Democrats are really, really good. I mean, they´re geniuses. This was gonna come out at some point. It didn´t come out in the summer of 2012, which would have been a disaster for them,

Here’s an indication of how burdensome student loans have become : About one-third of millennials say they would have been better off working, instead of going to college and paying tuition. (Snip) Delinquencies are also on the rise. The number of borrowers who are at least 90 days late on student loan payments has jumped from 8.5% in 2011 to 11.7% today, according to a study by the New York Federal Reserve. The problem sometimes is that not all college educations are worth their cost since they can’t guarantee a high-paying job to help pay off that student debt.

As more information about the IRS scandal trickles out daily, the White House’s involvement is becoming clearer. Those of us who’ve been warning about the demise of freedom with Barack Obama’s efforts to “fundamentally transform” our great nation are about to witness some sad vindication. Will awakened Americans finally join us in saying “enough is enough”? The president would like us to believe that he only learned about the IRS corruption from watching the news. But we recently learned that the White House was actively working with the IRS on how to roll out the story of this scandal.

J. Paul Getty III and Charles Fox met for the last time over lunch in 2001. Both men were confined to wheelchairs: Fox from multiple sclerosis, Getty from a 1981 drug-overdose-induced stroke that left him paralyzed and nearly blind at the age of 25. They sat by the swimming pool of Getty´s Hollywood estate, the air hot and "jasmine-scented," as Getty´s former wife, his mother and various people tended him. Though Getty communicated only in "small, indecipherable clicks," one of the entourage translated for Fox: "He says he wants you to write his story."

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Tempers flared in a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing Wednesday, with members on both sides of the aisle castigating the Internal Revenue Service for targeting conservative groups with special scrutiny, and then hiding the practice from Congress. Rep. Darrel Issa, the committee´s chairman, said that the committee learned just yesterday that the IRS completed its own investigation a year before a Treasury Department Inspector General report was completed. But despite the IRS recognizing in May 2012 that its employees were treating right-wing groups differently from other organizations, Issa said, IRS personnel withheld those conclusions from legislators.

This administration’s management of the Obama Internal Revenue Service scandal so far consists of a slow-walking, rolling disclosure of facts; equal parts equivocation, amnesia and indignation from IRS witnesses; deer-in-the-headlights non-responses by the White House press secretary; parsed, lawyerly statements from the president himself; and now one of the central key players is taking the Fifth. And all this comes from what the president claimed would be the “most transparent administration ever…” If we give the president the benefit of the doubt and assume he knows the truth is going to come out, the question remains:

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) honed in on evasive answers by former IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman at the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing into the IRS scandal Wednesday. Shulman refused to answer "yes" or "no" when Gowdy asked him whether he had taken any action to investigate or stop the targeting of conservative groups when he was made aware of it in May 2012. Instead of answering, Shulman claimed that he had been satisfied that the Inspector General was investigating, and said that he had merely been following practices left in place by his predecessor at the IRS.

When the main US federal emergency agency arrives at the scene of a disaster-hit area, one of the first places it turns to is the local Waffle House – and not just for its officials to grab a quick bite. Craig Fugate, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, came up with the idea of the "Waffle House index" as an informal way of measuring the impact of a disaster. The chain, which has a large number of branches in tornado-prone areas, has a robust emergency management plan. The index has three levels.

Lois Lerner, who directs the office at the center of that effort, has received her own education in the Constitution.(Snip)Josh Marshall, proprietor of TalkingPointsMemo.com, concedes that Lerner "has every right" to invoke the Fifth Amendment "and may be wise to do so.
